BASF Corporation’s Automotive Campus
in Southfield, MI, is a research and development facility that also
houses the administrative activities of the Automotive OEM Coatings/Automotive
Components, Automotive Refinish, and Industrial Coatings business
groups. More than 400 employees work at the campus, which
is located at the intersection of Telegraph Road and 11 Mile Road.
The BASF Automotive Campus is on 17.3
acres of land and consists of four buildings with a total size of
372,000 sq. ft. and a parking structure. The Coatings Research
Center and the Applications Research Center are the most prominent
buildings on the campus. The Coatings Research Center is the
main center of BASF’s automotive coatings research and development
and the Coatings and Colorants Division’s administrative functions.
The 55,000-sq.-ft. Applications Research Center features two automotive
coating processing lines that mirror the same systems used by BASF’s
customers. Researchers can evaluate optimal coatings application
systems and the appearance of fully finished automotive exterior
components.
