University Students' Professional Development Program
Empower yourself and maximize your career potential with BASF's unique Professional Development Program (PDP) for new college graduates.
The PDP was created to recruit highly motivated, mobile-minded, recent college graduates to join BASF Corporation. Participants are provided focused opportunities to develop their professional skills and integrate them into the BASF culture.
Through a series of real-world rotational assignments at different sites throughout the United States, participants will explore career options and develop technical and professional decision-making skills, while fulfilling specific business needs. Participants will also have the opportunity to assess their capabilities, skills and interests and gain valuable exposure to BASF’s culture and values.
Participation in the PDProgram requires participants to focus their expertise on significant challenging opportunities in a fast-paced global environment.
Explore career options in any of the following areas:
- Accounting – B.S. in Accounting
- Chemistry – Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Polymer Science
- Chemical Engineering – B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering
- MBA with a concentration in Finance, Marketing or Supply Chain/Logistics
The Accounting PDP is an 18-month rotational program comprised of assignments of varying duration in the following functional areas:
- Accounting Services
- Corporate Accounting
- Operational Accounting
- Internal Audit
- Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis
- Site Accounting
Assignments are based upon business need. One assignment will be located at one of BASF's major manufacturing sites across The United States. The remaining assignments will typically be located at BASF's North American Headquarters in Florham Park, NJ.
During the course of the program, the PDP participant will be exposed to a wide array of technical and personal growth opportunities. BASF seeks bright, geographically mobile, well-rounded individuals who are searching for an excellent entrance opportunity into the private accounting sector.
Upon successful completion of the program, PDP participants will, based upon existing opportunities at that time, be able to apply for a permanent placement opportunity within one of the above accounting functions. Upon completion of the program, PDP employees are encouraged to pursue an MBA degree.Program requirements are as follows:

The Ph.D. PDP allows the participant to develop technical expertise, network at senior levels throughout BASF and explore possible career tracks within the company. Assignments in the participant’s field of expertise will be designed and planned to enhance career development and deliver immediate value to BASF.
Two, nine-month assignments provide exposure to various technologies and career opportunities throughout BASF, while promoting the development of technical and professional decision-making skills and fulfilling specific business needs. Assignments can be located at many of BASF's major manufacturing sites located across North America.
Placement at the conclusion of the program leads to opportunities in materials research, product development, organic chemical research, polymer and fiber research, quality improvement, biotechnology, ecology or production/process support.
Program requirements are as follows:
- Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry or Polymer Science required
- Mobile-Minded
- International perspective required, international experience preferred
- Strong communication skills

This comprehensive program provides new college graduates with the opportunity to gain an understanding of BASF from different perspectives and to apply their expertise through real world assignments. PDP participants explore career options and develop technical and professional decision making skills, while fulfilling specific business needs through two nine-month rotational assignments at different sites. PDP participants gain valuable exposure to BASF culture and values and have the opportunity to live and work in a wide range of locations, including some of our major sites in Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
The program may consist of assignments in the following areas:
- Corporate Engineering (process & project)
- Corporate/Site Ecology and Safety
- Manufacturing/Operations
- Maintenance
- Research & Development

Summer Internship Programs (Domestic/International)
BASF offers Junior Chemical Engineering students the opportunity to spend
a summer working at a North American BASF site OR BASF AG's International
Headquarters in Ludwigshafen, Germany where the company operates the world's
largest integrated chemical complex.
Interns will partake in various Chemical Engineering projects.

Selection Criteria:

The MBA PDP provides MBA graduates with the opportunity to apply their education and background to challenging assignments, develop technical and managerial expertise, network at senior levels throughout BASF, and explore possible career tracks within the company. The emphasis of the program is to attract and prepare high potential candidates for challenging careers with BASF. Individual assignments, which can be located at various sites throughout the company, will be designed and planned to enhance career development and deliver immediate value to BASF.
The program is comprised of three domestic six-month assignments, and one international assignment in your field of expertise. These assignments will be designed and planned to enhance your career development and deliver immediate value to BASF.
The emphasis of the program is to attract and prepare high potential candidates for challenging careers with BASF.
Program requirements are as follows:
- MBA degree with a concentration in Finance, Marketing or Supply Chain/Logistics required
- Undergraduate technical degree preferred (e.g. Chemistry, Engineering, etc.)
- International perspective required, international experience preferred
- Mobile-minded
- Bi-lingual required, German fluency preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Outstanding work ethic
- Demonstrated academic achievement
- 3-5 years of work experience prior to your MBA
