BASF donates $4,000 to United Way for flood relief efforts
Grant to support temporary housing needs of Butler County residents

EVANS CITY, Pa., September 28, 2004 -- BASF presented the United Way of Butler County with a $4,000 grant that will be used to help defray the cost of temporary housing for Butler County residents affected by the recent floods.

“This donation will greatly assist our efforts in solving some immediate problems,” said Leslie Osche, Executive Director, United Way of Butler County. “Over the years, BASF has always offered to do just that—help solve problems. That part of our relationship is as every bit as valuable as the financial contribution.”

“BASF has a strong commitment to supporting the communities in which we do business,” said Mark Finch, Manager of Site Services at BASF’s Evans City site in making the presentation. “We’re proud to be able to support the efforts of the United Way, American Red Cross, and the many dedicated volunteers who are helping our neighbors in their time of need.”

The donation continues BASF’s long-standing partnership with the United Way of Butler County. Earlier this month, four BASF employees participated in the Ninth Annual Butler County United Way “Day of Caring.” Jane Graham, Theresa Vaneman, Dennis Kimmel, and Greg Haughey volunteered their time to paint, construct shelving, and clean carpets at VOICE, a domestic violence shelter.

This marked the eighth year that the Evans City site has participated in the event, and the third year volunteers have worked at the shelter.

Products from BASF’s Evans City site are used mainly in the pharmaceutical industry, and are also used in applications like agrochemicals, surfactants, adhesives, polymers, electronics, flavors, fragrances and automobiles.
