BASF donates $2,000 to Callery, Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Departments
Grants support purchase of upgraded communications equipment

EVANS CITY, Pa., October 14, 2004 -- First responders from both the Callery and Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Departments will soon be working with upgraded communications equipment, thanks to two $1,000 "Helping Make Communities Better" grants that BASF recently made to each department.

The Butler County Communications Center is currently upgrading the countywide radio system that serves the police, fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) units throughout the county. The present radio equipment owned by the fire departments, including paging systems and mobile and portable radios, is obsolete.

“This grant will help to improve our communications and we appreciate the help and support BASF provides to the fire department and the Callery community,” said Curt Huffman, Chief, Callery Volunteer Fire Department.

“The people at BASF’s Evans City site are good neighbors and are concerned about the community. The contribution towards our new radio system is appreciated,” said Scott Jamison, Chief, Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department.

"BASF has a longstanding policy of assisting communities where we are located and where our employees live. We're particularly pleased when we can make a donation such as this to volunteer organizations whose mission is to save lives and protect property," said Mark Finch Manager of Site Services at BASF’s Evans City site.

Products from BASF’s Evans City site are used mainly in the pharmaceutical industry, and are also used in applications like agrochemicals, surfactants, adhesives, polymers, electronics, flavors, fragrances and automobiles.
