BASF to stock boron trifluoride diethyl ether complexes in the
United States
Liquid products offer customers shorter delivery times, easy handling
EVANS CITY, Pa., November 4, 2004 -- Beginning on December 1, 2004,
BASF will inventory drums of boron trifluoride diethyl ether complex
(BF3-etherate, or BF3-DEE) in the United States. Prior to this change,
customers were supplied via direct import.
"By stocking BF3-complexes in the United States, BASF will
eliminate seven weeks of lead time for our customers," said
Dr. Mark Torgerson, Product Manager for BASF's Inorganics business
in North America. Torgerson said that BASF's BF3-diethyl ether complex
will be available in 210 kg (462 lb.) and 60 kg (132 lb.) drums
for faster delivery to customers.
BF3 is a Lewis acid commonly used as a reaction catalyst in the
synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, fine chemicals and
resins. BF3-complexes are easy-to-handle liquids that can be used
instead of BF3 gas in most applications. BASF manufactures eight
other complexes of BF3 that will also be inventoried in the United
States as demand grows.
