BASF’s Engineering Plastics business names Masica to Director, Manufacturing

WYANDOTTE, Mich., November 22, 2004 -- BASF has appointed Gregory M. Masica as Director, Manufacturing for BASF’s Engineering Plastics business in North America.

Masica is responsible for the production of BASF’s engineering plastics product line in North America, which includes Ultramid® and Celanese® standard and specialty nylons, Nypel® recycled nylon, Ultradur® polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), Petra® post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Ultrason® E polyethersulfone (PES) and Ultrason® S polysulfone (PSU).

He also oversees the North American compounding facilities where these products are produced at BASF’s sites in Wyandotte, Mich., and Sparta, Tenn., as well as the business’s toll manufacturing arrangements. Masica has 20 years of experience in plastics ranging from production engineering, polymer process engineering and compounding operations engineering to quality operations, color technology and product management.

Prior to assuming this position, Masica was Product Manager, Compounded Nylon Products, for BASF, which he joined as part of the company’s acquisition of Honeywell’s engineering plastics business in May 2003. Masica began his career with GE Plastics in various manufacturing roles. In January 1995, he was appointed Site Manager for the Sparta, Tenn., compounding operations of AlliedSignal Plastics, which later merged with Honeywell.

Masica has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.
