| BASF golf tournament raises $15,000 for
Ascension Battered Women’s Program
Donation will help provide services for area battered women, families
GEISMAR, La., November 30, 2004 -- Employees at BASF’s Geismar
site recently presented the Ascension Parish Battered Women’s
Program with a donation of $15,000 from their annual charity golf
tournament. The donation will be used to provide expanded services
to battered women and families in Ascension Parish.
Since 1999, BASF’s Geismar area golf tournaments have raised
$74,000 for the Ascension Parish Battered Women’s Program.
With those donations, the program has expanded services it provides
to battered women and children and converted a part-time outreach
position to full-time status.
“The money we receive each year from BASF’s benefit
golf tournaments is our only source of local funding,” said
Martha Forbes, Executive Director of the Ascension Parish Battered
Women’s Program. “We’re extremely grateful to
the employees, players and sponsors who give of their time and themselves
each year to help us provide shelter, counseling and assistance
to battered women and children in our community. Their generosity
means so much to our organization and the people it serves.”
The Ascension Battered Women’s Program provides individual,
group and phone counseling, emergency shelter, referrals to other
agencies, safety planning, information and emotional support during
the protective order process, and relocation assistance.
“Our employees, sponsors and players have been the reason
for our success in raising money through our yearly golf tournaments,”
said Brenda Roussel, Golf Tournament Committee Chair and an employee
at BASF’s Geismar site. “We couldn’t have achieved
this level of success without them.”
Other BASF employees serving on the golf tournament committee were
Bob Kosick, Charles Currier, Terry Olivier, Johnny Matherne, Tom
Yue and Bobby Shelton.
The yearly fundraiser is part of BASF’s commitment to making
its community better through its participation in and sponsorship
of programs such as the Battered Women’s Program.
