At the highest levels, BASF understands the powerful benefits diversity offers our business.
"Valuing diversity is not merely recognizing the legitimacy of differences, but relying on these differences for a competitive advantage - developing an environment of cooperation and communication that encourages colleagues to value and express differing ideas and viewpoints. Diversity is not only important, it is necessary to forming the best team." - Kurt Bock, CFO, BASF Aktiengesellschaft,Chairman and CEO, BASF Corporation

Employee Diversity

Our Diversity Vision

At BASF Corporation, we value the differences in our workforce as they are a key to the success of our business and to the achievement of our status as an employer of choice and a partner of choice. Consistent with our values, BASF has an inclusive environment that promotes respect and dignity for all in the workplace.

The BASF Diversity Vision defines the value that is placed on the differences in the workforce and recognizes that diversity is a key component in broadening our experience and technical competency base to solve problems in a global marketplace. It also reinforces the value of respect and dignity in the workplace, which enhances organizational performance.

As Kurt Bock, the CFO of BASF Aktiengesellschaft and Chairman and CEO of BASF Corporation states, "Valuing diversity is not merely recognizing the legitimacy of differences, but relying on these differences for a competitive advantage - developing an environment of cooperation and communication that encourages colleagues to value and express differing ideas and viewpoints. Diversity is not only important, it is necessary to forming the best team."

"The great thing about BASF's commitment to diversity is that it makes business sense. In today's competitive global marketplace, we have to capitalize on every business opportunity. That's why it makes sense to adopt practices that contribute to the bottom line. An effective diversity strategy does just that," he added. "Diversity represents an ongoing challenge for us at BASF, one that requires our individual and collective determination and our commitment."

Valuing Diversity as a Competitive Advantage

Extract From 2005 BASF Corporate Report Diversity As a Competitive Advantage

In all markets where BASF is active, we aim to be an attractive employer and to provide our customers with contacts who are used to dealing with diverse requirements.

We therefore view diversity as a clear competitive edge in the global economy.

By diversity we mean that all employees have the same opportunities at our company, regardless of their sex, nationality, educational background or cultural heritage.

The decisive criterion is the qualifications of those under consideration, since we always select candidates for positions based on qualifications, not quotas.

We are convinced that diversity creates openness – to cultural and demographic changes within the company and to the needs and wishes of our customers.

A diverse workforce is also more innovative: Diverse cultural backgrounds, individual perspectives, experience, ways of thinking and approaches help us to address challenges faster and more creatively.

Supplier Diversity

Our Supplier Diversity Program is designed to promote and strengthen relationships with minority and women-owned businesses, as well as businesses with significant minority and female representation.
