BASF golf tournament raises $17,000 for Ascension Battered Women's Program
Donation will help provide shelter, counseling and assistance

GEISMAR, La., November 24, 2003 -- Area golfers and dozens of local companies helped to raise more than $17,000 for the Ascension Battered Women's Program by playing in BASF's recent tournament at Pelican Point in Gonzales.

The proceeds from the tournament will be used to provide services to battered women and families in the area.

The Ascension Battered Women's Program provides individual, group and phone counseling, emergency shelter, referrals to other agencies, safety planning, information and emotional support during the protective order process, and relocation assistance.

BASF's annual fundraising golf tournaments have raised nearly $51,000 for the program over the past four years.

"The response to this year's tournament was overwhelming," said Brenda Roussel, an administrative assistant at BASF's Geismar site, and head of the golf tournament committee. "The weather was beautiful and everyone turned out to support a worthy cause. We would not have been so successful without the support of BASF, the companies which donated so generously for hole sponsorships, and the players who participated in the tournament."
