| BASF sponsors science video series for local middle schools
Award-winning program supports schools’ science curriculum
SHREVEPORT, La., November 17, 2005 -- Students at Bossier Parish and Caddo Parish middle schools will benefit from an expanded science resource library with the addition of the “Science Screen Reports” videotape series, thanks to a donation made today from BASF.
The company presented the video series to school representatives as part of its “Helping Make Communities Better” outreach activities.
The “Science Screen Report” consists of a fascinating series of educational videos that bring current information on topics related to science, engineering, medicine, technology, conservation and the environment into classrooms. This school year, it is filled with fascinating information on volcanic prediction, colonizing space, and the quest for free energy, to name a few. Teacher’s guides, providing lesson strategies, background information and various other useful references for educators, are also included with the video series. "We appreciate BASF’s sponsorship of the science video series," said Terrie Johnson, Supervisor of Science Curriculum for Bossier Parish Middle Schools. “The program allows our students to experience topics that are not covered in the classroom.”
"Science is constantly changing, and we appreciate BASF’s support of this unique program that keeps students up to date on a number of interesting topics," said Jack Freeman, Science Director for Caddo Parish Middle Schools.
“This outstanding video series helps to engage students in the study of science and, perhaps, may help spark students' interest in pursuing scientific careers later in life," said Dan Leal, manager of BASF's Shreveport site. “BASF is committed to science literacy and education, and, as such, we are proud to work with our local schools and play an active role in the communities in which we live and do business.” Science Screen Report and Science Screen Report for Kids are consistent award winners, having won top honors at the National Educational Film Festival as well as other recognitions from around the world. The series is in its thirty-fifth year and is produced annually by Allegro Productions in Boca Raton, Florida.
BASF’s Shreveport facility manufactures and packages a range of pharmaceutical products. With about 200 full-time employees, the site is a leading manufacturer of prescription-strength ibuprofen. The site is located on more than 40 acres along I-49 in Shreveport.
