| BASF donates $5,000 to Potter Township
Volunteer Fire Department
Funds support new firehouse and related equipment
MONACA, Pa., July 25, 2005 -- BASF today donated $5,000 to the
Potter Township Volunteer Fire Department as part of the company’s
continuing support of the department’s new firehouse at 247
Mowry Road. The company has made a $30,000 five-year commitment
to the firehouse, which was dedicated on September 11 of last year.
BASF and other local companies and community members collectively
contributed over $250,000 towards the firehouse construction project.
Jim Mason, Site Manager for BASF’s Monaca, Pa., site presented
the check to Jim Gabel, chief of the Potter Township Volunteer
Fire Department. “BASF is committed to supporting the communities
in which we are located and where our employees live,” said
Mason. “We’re proud to continue to assist the members
of the Potter Township Volunteer Fire Department as they provide
invaluable services to our site and the residents of this community."
“Without the support of companies such as BASF and others
in our community, the construction project would have never happened," said
Gabel. "We now have a great facility that is equipped with
the latest resources and upgraded equipment. This serves as a fine
example of how we can make our community better by working together.”
Established in 1953, the Potter Township Volunteer Fire Department
currently has 15 members. The department serves Potter Township
and provides mutual aid to Center Township and Raccoon Township
Fire Departments, as well as other communities in the county.
About 100 people work at BASF's Monaca site, which produces latex
used in paper coatings, adhesives, paints and carpet backing.
