BASF donates $150,000 to Louisiana Capital Area Red Cross
Funds to assist continued hurricane relief efforts in 10-parish area

GEISMAR, La., January 31, 2006 -- BASF Corporation recently presented the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross with a $150,000 contribution to assist in continued hurricane relief efforts in the 10-parish area surrounding Baton Rouge.

“We are a volunteer-driven organization and depend on many people and companies like BASF to operate,” said Vic Howell, Chief Executive Officer of the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross during the check presentation. “In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, BASF and its employees helped in many different ways, and the company continues to help with this generous contribution.”

Howell said that after the hurricane, the Red Cross chapter operated 25 shelters that housed more than 12,000 displaced residents.

“This is the best part of my job,” said Mike Cohen, Senior Vice President and General Manager of BASF’s Geismar site. “We are all proud to work for a company that has a strong tradition of helping our local community. Ensuring that agencies such as the Red Cross can continue providing assistance to those in need is very important.”

The $150,000 American Red Cross contribution was part of $1 million that BASF pledged to hurricane relief efforts throughout the Gulf Coast region. A separate fund was established with the Baton Rouge Area Foundation for company and employee contributions. These funds have been used to assist displaced residents in the area.

The American Red Cross has served the Baton Rouge community and surrounding areas since 1917. The agency provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. In 2004, the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter opened Regional Service Centers in several area parishes.

BASF’s Geismar site manufactures a wide range of chemicals used in hundreds of consumer products.
