BASF donates $1,000 to YMCA ‘Strong Kids’ Campaign
Grant to fund scholarships, programs and activities for local children and
families
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., April 4, 2006 -- BASF has made a $1,000 “Helping Make
Communities Better” grant to the Downtown Chattanooga YMCA Strong Kids Campaign
to fund scholarships, programs and activities for local children and
families.
“We appreciate BASF’s support of the Strong Kids Campaign,” said Jerry Wang,
Vice President of the Downtown Chattanooga YMCA. “This contribution is an
investment in our local children and families whose lives will be enhanced by
having access to our many programs and activities.”
The Strong Kids Campaign provides funding for underprivileged children to
attend YMCA day-care and preschool programs, and swimming lessons. The program
also provides tutors for school-age children who need academic assistance, and
supports teens who participate in the YMCA’s Model United Nations program that
teaches students about international affairs by simulating the United Nations
and its procedures.
“This contribution represents BASF’s larger commitment to making the
communities where we operate better,” said J.D. Purvis, Manager of BASF’s
Chattanooga sites. “Initiatives such as the Strong Kids Campaign are important
to Chattanooga and BASF is proud to help enrich the lives of our fellow
residents. We also appreciate the involvement of BASF employees such as Chris
Snodgrass, who volunteered to assist the YMCA in this campaign.”
The Downtown Chattanooga YMCA is part of the YMCA of Metropolitan
Chattanooga, which includes six facilities across the city. The mission of the
YMCA is to offer programs and services that promote good health, strong
families, youth leadership, community development and international
understanding.
Approximately 130 employees work at BASF’s two Chattanooga sites, which make
products used for adhesives, carpet backing, foams, paper coatings and asphalt
modifiers.
