BASF awards science scholarship to local student Casey Strawser
Grant continues company’s commitment to supporting science education
GREENVILLE, Ohio, June 2, 2006 -- BASF has awarded a $1,000 science
scholarship to Casey Strawser in recognition of her academic achievements at
Greenville High School.
Later this year, Strawser will attend Wittenburg University, where she plans
to major in Chemistry.
“BASF has a strong commitment to supporting the communities in which we do
business and to supporting education as key aspects of our ‘Helping Make
Communities Better’ grant program,” said Rick De Schepper, a Senior Process
Chemist at BASF’s Greenville site, in presenting the scholarship check at
Greenville High School’s Senior Awards ceremony last night. “We’re proud
to be able to support outstanding students such as Miss Strawser.”
This year’s award marks the 14th consecutive year BASF has presented the
$1,000 science scholarship to a graduating senior from Greenville, Ansonia, or
Arcanum Butler high schools. The recipient, selected by BASF Community Advisory
Panel members, must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, demonstrated
leadership skills and school citizenship, participated in extra-curricular
activities, and plans for future studies in chemical engineering or a
science-related field.
About 150 people work at BASF's Greenville location, which produces resins
and coatings used in automotive and industrial applications.
