BASF donates $1,000 to Racine County Food Bank
Gift commemorates company’s first day of operation in Racine
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., July 10, 2006 -- To commemorate the company’s first day
of operation in the community following the acquisition of Johnson Polymer,
BASF has presented a $1,000 “Helping Make Communities Better” grant to the Racine County Food Bank, Racine,
Wis.
“BASF is known as the company that ‘helps make products better.’ We also
have a strong commitment to helping make the communities in which we work and
live better," said Gerry Podesta, Vice President, Performance Chemicals,
for BASF Corporation. “We’re delighted to support the Racine County Food Bank
and its efforts to distribute to food pantries, emergency shelters, community
meal sites, social service agencies, and more than 50 affiliates throughout the
region.”
The Racine County Food Bank facilitates the distribution of food and other
necessities to individuals in need through a network of direct service
providers. Founded in 1983, the food bank manages food drives and collections,
warehousing, and distribution of more than 330,000 pounds of food each
year.
"What is remarkable is that all of this work is coordinated by just two
staff members,” said Podesta. “To continue to be successful, the Racine County
Food Bank depends on the support of the community.”
BASF announced the acquisition of Johnson Polymer, a subsidiary of
JohnsonDiversey Inc. of Sturtevant, Wis., on May 2. The deal closed on June 30
and Johnson Polymer officially became part of BASF’s Performance Chemicals
business unit on July 1. This division produces and markets a broad range of
specialty chemicals worldwide including colorants and additives used in
coatings applications.
