BASF’s Shreveport site awarded State of Louisiana training
grant
Funds to be used for workforce training on Lean Manufacturing
Practices
SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA, November 7, 2006 -- BASF today announced that the
company’s Shreveport, La., site has been awarded a $108,000 Incumbent Worker
Training Grant from the State of Louisiana. The state awards companies with
grants each year to fund work force training initiatives.
“This grant helps BASF further educate employees about the various tools of
Lean Manufacturing,” said Paul Granberry, Manager of BASF’s Shreveport, La.,
site. “These techniques help us create additional production capacity and
reduce capital spending, which keeps us competitive as a site, and solid as a
corporate citizen of Shreveport.”
BASF’s Lean Manufacturing training will be conducted by the Manufacturing
Extension Partnership (MePOL), which is sponsored by the University of
Louisiana at Lafayette and the State of Louisiana. Lean Manufacturing
philosophies focus on eliminating waste in all areas of production, while being
highly responsive to customer needs and producing quality products in the most
efficient and economic manner.
“The grant and training is important for BASF to ensure employees retain
their high-skill levels,” said Michael Harris, Incumbent Worker Training
Program Director for the State of Louisiana. “A skilled work force is essential
for a company to compete in a constantly changing economy.”
BASF’s Shreveport facility manufactures and packages a range of
pharmaceutical products. With about 170 full-time employees, the site is a
leading manufacturer of prescription strength ibuprofen. The site is located on
more than 40 acres along I-49 in Shreveport.
