BASF employees and U.S. Marines team up to provide ‘Toys for
Tots’
Toy donations benefit children in Ascension Parish and surrounding
communities
GEISMAR, LA, December 13, 2006 -- Employees at BASF’s Geismar site raised more
than $2,400 and donated enough toys to fill eight large boxes to make the
holidays a bit happier for needy children in the area.
The U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots drive, held this year at BASF’s Geismar
site on Dec. 5 and 6, has become an annual tradition for BASF employees.
Retired BASF employees and Marines collected cash contributions and the toys as
employees drove in and out of the Geismar site.
“It’s something we really enjoy doing,” said Pat Kane, a former BASF
employee who served 42 years in the Marine Corps and helped organize the Toys
for Tots drive. “There are so many needy children in the area whose holidays
we’re helping brighten up.”
Three former or retired BASF employees who also served in the Marine Corps
started the Toys for Tots program at BASF’s Geismar site seven years ago. The
program collects toys for distribution as holiday gifts to needy children in
local communities. This year, Sgt. Terry Griffith and Sgt. James Mason joined
the effort, wearing their full-dress Marine uniforms to collect donations at
the Geismar site’s main employee entrance. Both Marines are part of a Marine
weapons company in Baton Rouge.
“We’re proud of our former employees who organize the Toys for Tots collection
at our site each year,” said Mike Cohen, Senior Vice President and General
Manager of BASF’s Geismar site. “Our employees and former employees are always
generous and active in the community, especially during the holidays.”
BASF’s Geismar site manufactures a wide range of chemicals used in hundreds
of consumer products.
