GEISMAR, LA, December 19, 2007 – This fall’s election of Kendricks Brass to a seat on the St. James Parish Council raises to five the number of employees at BASF’s Geismar site who serve in elected public offices.
Brass, who officially takes office in January, joins BASF co-workers and public officials Ed Price, Wilson “Willie” Malbrough, Electa Fletcher Mickens and Carl C. Snowden. Price is president of the Ascension Parish School Board; Malbrough is a member of the St. James Parish Council; Mickens serves on the Assumption Parish School Board; and Snowden is a member of the Zachary Community School Board and becomes its president in January.
“We are proud that so many of our employees have chosen to serve their community in both elected and appointed offices,” said Mike Cohen, senior vice president and general manager of BASF’s Geismar site. “Many other employees and retirees serve their communities as volunteers for a wide range of charitable organizations and civic causes.”
All five of the elected officials say they take on the responsibilities and challenges of serving in public office because of a strong desire to serve their communities. Ed Price, a 30-year BASF employee and school board member for 22 years, explains that his commitment to education is consistent with BASF’s involvement in the community.
“BASF has made a significant commitment to being a part of the Ascension Parish community,” said Price. “It has adopted Galvez Middle School and is involved in all types of community activities. BASF has also provided scholarships to students to further their education.”
BASF employees and retirees have also served local communities by holding a wide range of non-elected positions ranging from serving as president of the Ascension Fund to holding appointed jobs in Ascension Parish government.
BASF’s Geismar site manufactures a wide range of chemicals used in hundreds of consumer products.
