DALTON, GA, and CHATTANOOGA, TN, December 19, 2007 -- For 10 consecutive years, employees from BASF’s Dalton, Georgia, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, sites have collected toys to support the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign. In 2007, employees collected a record number of toys.

“We’re very proud to be part of this effort by ‘Mike Battery’, Chattanooga’s U.S. Marine Corps Reserve unit and a neighbor of our site,” said J.D. Purvis, operations director for the BASF Functional Polymers Regional Business Unit in North America. “Every year these soldiers do an outstanding job in supporting needy children in our community.”

James H. Appling, a team leader at BASF’s Chattanooga site, as well as fellow employees Luther B. Bowman, process technician and Danny Sims, maintenance technician, all former Marines, led the BASF effort in Chattanooga. Kathy Loeffler, administrative associate for the BASF Carpet business, served as the Dalton chairperson for the drive. Her son Jason is a Marine staff sergeant stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

In addition to the toys collected, Purvis presented the Marines with a check for $1,000 to purchase more toys for the children.

Marines at the reserve center, including Staff Sergeant Foster who heads up the Toys for Tots effort for Chattanooga, North Georgia, expressed their gratitude for BASF’s contributions and emphasized how much the children appreciate these toys during the holiday season.

On Dec. 3, 2007, the Marines of Mike Battery left Chattanooga for an assignment in Iraq.
