RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, May 6, 2008 – Prowl® H2O herbicide from BASF recently received registration from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for use on grapes, including table, raisin and wine varieties.
The addition of grapes to the Prowl H2O label now affords grape growers opportunities for more effective broad-spectrum weed control. The unique formulation of Prowl H2O has less odor, produces less staining, contains no VOCs, and does not bind to field surface residue like organic solvent-based products. While other solvent-based DNA herbicides can get locked up in surface residue, the water-based formulation of Prowl H2O releases from residue to deliver more herbicide to the weed germination zone.
“Due to its water-based formulation, Prowl H2O is ideal for the New York grape grower looking for long-lasting, reliable weed control in an easy-to-handle, highly compatible tank-mix herbicide,” said Jon Sweat, Prowl H2O Market Manager with BASF. “Because it’s less volatile, it stays on the soil surface longer, delivering better residual for superior broadleaf weed and annual grass control.”
Prowl H2O is registered for use on numerous other crops, including alfalfa; bearing fruit and nut trees; carrots and carrots grown for seed production; corn; cotton; edible beans (including dry, lima, snap, chickpeas [garbanzo beans], southern peas [cow peas] and sweet lupines); garlic; grain sorghum; lentils and peas (including English, dry, garden, dwarf green, pigeon and edible pod); mint (including peppermint and spearmint); nonbearing fruit and nut tree crops and nonbearing vineyards; onions (direct-seeded and transplanted dry bulb) and shallots (dry bulb); peanuts; potatoes; rice; soybeans; sugarcane; sunflowers and no-till sunflowers; tobacco and wheat.
