RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, July 23, 2008 – Prowl H20 herbicide, from BASF, offers exceptional convenience, performance and crop safety benefits - including no odor, reduced staining, storage flexibility and lower user rates. To celebrate the enhanced performance of Prowl H20 BASF launched a campaign in which tree fruit, tree nut and grape growers could share their Prowl H20 success stories with BASF and growers via photo/video or essay entries. Two winning entries were selected, one from each category, and each will be awarded an Arctic Cat Prowler UTV and trailer.
“With abundant contest entries, we had a very difficult decision to make,” said Jon Sweat, Prowl H2O Market Manager with BASF. “Each entry was creative, unique and highlighted the exceptional benefits that Prowl H20 herbicide offers tree fruit, nut and grape growers.”
The winning entries were submitted by LaMora Farms in Webster, NY, and David Gilcrest in Visalia, CA. LaMora Farms submitted an essay highlighting their use of Prowl H20 to control increasing weed pressure that was stifling apple tree growth and compromising fruit size at harvest. After applying Prowl H20 to their apple orchard, the LaMora's noted outstanding weed control.
“The results were amazing – we couldn’t believe how well Prowl H20 controlled our tough grass and broadleaf problem and how long it kept the weeds at bay,” said Lindsay and Early LaMora in their entry.
David Gilcrest, a grower, pest control advisor (PCA) and commercial applicator submitted a video entry highlighting the use of Prowl H20 on his farm. With enhanced residual control, Prowl H20 users make less applications.
“The most important thing with a residual control herbicide is not having to come back and reapply,” said Gilcrest in his entry. “Prowl H20 is helping me in combating weed resistance. With more and more glyphosate resistant crops being planted, Prowl is proving to be an invaluable tool.”
"The response to the Prowl Evolution contest has been fantastic, with entries from growers in a number of different regions, but the unifying theme has been outstanding control," said Sweat. "This contest provided a unique way for our growers to become a part of the BASF Prowl family. We thank everyone who participated."
The Arctic Cat Prowler UTV, complete with a Prowl H20 herbicide vehicle skin wrap, will be awarded to the winners later this month. To view the winning entries, visit www.prowlevolution.com.
