BASF specialty kaolins improve performance, lower costs, increase efficiency, and enhance the value of customer products and processes in the plastics, rubber, ink, cosmetics, ceramics, adhesives, paints and many other industries. Major product lines include Satintone®, ASP® , Translink® , Ultrex® , and MetaMax®.
For example, in the paints and coatings industry, BASF specialty kaolin extender pigments are used to reduce titanium dioxide and improve film properties, package stability and reduce formulation costs of industrial coatings, as well as improve the optical qualities of paints, namely hiding power and tint strength. In plastics and rubber, BASF kaolin extender pigments are used to increase strength and durability, improve dispersion, provide electrical, chemical and moisture resistance and other properties to a wide range of products. In the concrete arena, BASF MetaMax pozzolan high reacitvity meta-kaolin is used for making concrete stronger and easier to apply and finish.
BASF specialty kaolin extender pigments are engineered using naturally occurring aluminosilicates mined from high-purity deposits in the United States. These are refined using complex BASF processes to control particle size distribution, remove natural contaminants, minimize ionic impurities and enhance brightness. Some BASF kaolins are surface-modified and treated with functional additives to further enhance performance, processing and hydrophobicity.
For more than 40 years, BASF has been a leader in mineral surface treatment technology and has the most advanced surface treatment processes in the kaolin industry.
