BASF first chemical company to be founding member of The Sustainability Consortium
BASF today (March 18, 2010) announced that it is the first chemical company to become a member of The Sustainability Consortium, an independent organization of diverse global participants that work collaboratively to build a scientific foundation that drives innovation to improve consumer product sustainability. The company joins other retailers and consumer product manufacturers that have become members of the Consortium and its product life cycle mission, including social and environmental considerations.

Fourfold Pedestrian Protection in Opel car models with bumper stiffener made of a BASF resin
At German car manufacturer Opel, four high-volume vehicle models use lower bumper stiffeners (LBS) made of Ultramid® CR (PA) from BASF: Following success in the Opel Corsa, the component developed for pedestrian protection is now found also in the Opel Insignia, Opel Astra and Opel Meriva. The Opel LBS parts are distinctly lighter and thinner than the production LBS parts made of PP.

BASF plans switch to registered shares
BASF SE plans to convert its bearer shares to registered shares. A proposal to this effect will be put to the shareholders at the Annual Meeting of BASF SE on April 29, 2010.
