Environmental Challenges Drive Research in Catalysis

Melanie Sanford, Professor at the University of Michigan, is an exception to that rule: Her commitment to new catalytic reactions for cleaner systems and greener processes in chemistry and her new approaches to molecule-building through breaking the normally unreactive, very strong carbon–hydrogen (CH) bond has earned the 34 year-old chemist the title “bond-breaker” in the science press.

Dow and BASF win IChemE Award 2009 for jointly developed HPPO Technology
Ludwigshafen, Germany and Midland, Michigan: November 5, 2009 – The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and BASF announced today that they have received the Institution of Chemical Engineers’ Innovation and Excellence Award in Core Engineering for their jointly developed Hydrogen Peroxide to Propylene Oxide (HPPO) production technology.
