BASF to build new formic acid plant in the USA

BASF announced today its plans to build a world scale production plant for formic acid at its integrated “Verbund” site in Geismar, Louisiana. The new plant will create 20 new jobs and have an annual capacity of more than 50,000 tons. It will be the only formic acid production plant in North America and will allow BASF to better serve strategic markets in North and South America. Start-up of the new plant is expected in the 2nd quarter 2014.

BASF acquires Novolyte Technologies

Ludwigshafen, Germany and Cleveland, Ohio – April 26, 2012 – BASF, Arsenal and Foosung today announced BASF’s acquisition of Novolyte Technologies, based in Cleveland, Ohio (USA). Novolyte is a manufacturer of electrolyte formulations for lithium-ion batteries, as well as specialty chemicals for several key market segments. With 167 employees, Novolyte operates sites in the United States and China. BASF purchases Novolyte from Arsenal Capital Partners, a U.S.-based private equity firm.

BASF at “JEC Composites Show 2012”

BASF to acquire Merck’s electrolyte activities

BASF will acquire the electrolytes business for high-performance batteries from German Chemical and Pharmaceutical Company Merck. The companies have agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction.

Formic acid to fight slippery road conditions

Salts of formic acid, which are known as formates, are now being used successfully in the Nordic countries, Switzerland and Austria to remove slippery ice from roads, sidewalks and bikeways.

As part of this transition, a new global business unit “Battery Materials” will be formed, effective January 1, 2012.

BASF to build tert.-Butylamine plant in Nanjing

October 17, 2011 - BASF will build a production plant to produce tert.-Butylamine (tBA) in Nanjing, China. The facility will be wholly-owned by BASF and will benefit from the integrated production system of BASF-YPC Co. Ltd. Production is scheduled to begin in 2013.
