Protectol® CX® Type A - History

The Wolman name is inextricably linked with the history of wood preservation. Founded in 1911 by wood preservation pioneer Dr. Karl Heinrich Wolman, we have nearly a century of wood preservation experience. Since 1980, Dr. Wolman GmbH has been part of BASF, a union that has led to extremely positive synergistic effects.

Innovations include the introduction of the first chromium and arsenic-free preservative based on copper HDO in 1989 – years before many countries restricted use of preservatives containing chromium and arsenic. BASF began to remove arsenic from its products as early as 1960 – years before legislation was introduced to prohibit or restrict usage. Since 1990, we have only marketed chromium-free wood preservatives. Protectol CX preservatives have a proven track record in a wide variety of applications and climates.
