Jane hits the road with Mining Solutions

They say you can't understand someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes. To get more of an understanding of what her colleagues get up to out in the field, Mining Solutions customer service officer Jane Azzopardi, went on the road. 

Based in Melbourne's Southbank, Jane Azzopardi is located almost 3,000 kilometres away from her BASF Mining Solutions colleagues in Western Australia. When Mining Solutions senior sales and technical account manager Riahna Kolatowicz offered to show Jane what life on the road really looks like, Jane packed her bags and travelled west. 

The team's first destination of their week-long trip was to the Pilbara region of Western Australia, one of the world’s premier iron ore provinces. During visits to customers, Jane was exposed to life as a Mining Solutions account manager, shadowing Riahna in her daily activities including customer pre-start meetings, laboratory test work and inspections of product delivery sites and flocculant dosing systems.

Following their time in the Pilbara, Jane and Riahna headed south towards Perth to visit another customer, giving Jane more of an understanding of the logistics involved in getting Mining Solutions products to remote sites.


Reflecting on the journey, Jane said, “it was a fantastic opportunity to better understand what Mining Solutions account managers do on site visits as well as gain an insight in to the needs of the customer.” Riahna also enjoyed and experience and said, “Jane gained an appreciation of the often harsh conditions working at remote sites but also the beauty of the West Australian outback. It was an amazing opportunity to showcase ‘my backyard’ to Jane. We went to two sites covering over 1000kms; we have some amazing countryside in Western Australia and it’s nice to share that with other members of the team.”
