BASF celebrates 25 years of success for Regent insecticide in Indonesia

  • More than 9 million Indonesian farmers in 17 provinces have benefited from the insecticide’s superior performance
  • Farmers invited to join BASF during series of celebrations across Java
  • BASF’s commitment to sustainability and innovation continues to bring new insecticides like Xemco to farmers

Pamanukan, Indonesia – September 15, 2018 – BASF is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Regent, one of the leading insecticide brands in Indonesia. Since 1993, Regent has helped more than 9 million farmers in 17 provinces throughout Indonesia to control pests across almost 2.8 million hectares of land. With no dose increase or resistance issues since its introduction in the marketplace, more than two generations of farmers in Indonesia have come to depend on Regent’s superior quality and reliability.

“Regent not only protects crops longer into the season, but also results in stronger and healthier plants compared to those treated with standard insecticides. The higher yield potential positively contributes to farmers’ welfare,” explained Ganesh Pamugar Satyagraha, Head of Agricultural Solutions at BASF in Indonesia.

In Indonesia, around 90% of Regent’s application is for rice, the country’s staple food. “This means Regent has also been contributing to the food security in Indonesia,” added Satyagraha.

To show appreciation for farmers’ long-term support, this September BASF held a series of three celebratory events – in Kediri, East Java, in Demak, Central Java, and in Pamanukan, West Java. Thousands of farmers attended the three events and participated in fun, health-promoting activities such as health walks, blood donation drives, bazaars and games.

During the events, BASF’s Research and Development (R&D) teams showcased cutting-edge agricultural technologies and solutions including Xemco insecticide, one of the company’s latest innovations. Building on the success and power of Regent, Xemco helps farmers protect their rice crops from major sucking insect pests, particularly brown plant hoppers, and provides additional protection against stemborers and leaf folders.

“Regent’s solid track record and successes, combined with our newest solutions, are a testament to BASF’s continuous commitment to creating chemistry for a sustainable future,” said Daniel Loh, President Director of BASF in Indonesia. “Agriculture is very important both in Indonesia and globally, and BASF devotes a significant portion its €1.88 billion annual R&D budget towards developing innovations that boost crop yields to meet the growing demand for food, while ensuring the health of farmers, consumers and the environment.”
