Join BASF as a process engineer, chemical engineer or bio-engineer.

At BASF you will work on numerous projects for innovative technologies in research and development or engineering. Today, we are already looking for the answers to tomorrow's questions. Innovation in chemicals plays a key role here. We are continuously working on new products and solutions as well as innovative technologies and modern production processes.

As the world’s leading chemical company we focus in particular on handling energy and raw materials efficiently and on consistently taking economic issues into account. In close cooperation with our customers, we drive forward the development of new and exciting products.

Are you an engineer focusing on process technology, chemical or bio-engineering and are looking for an employer who offers you challenging perspectives?

In research and development you will be involved in developing new or improving existing production processes. In addition, research offers you freedom for your own creative ideas.

In engineering you will work on plant construction projects in Germany and beyond. You will cooperate with the project team and the participating departments. From the very start you can take on demanding tasks with commitment and responsibility.

In research and development we are looking for team players who have completed their degree and ideally their PhD in chemical engineering or process technology and have gathered professional experience in research projects. You should have in-depth knowledge about one of the following areas: polymer technology, reaction technology, chemical process technology or thermal process technology/thermodynamics. Good German and English language skills round off your profile.

You are in the right place for engineering if you have completed your degree and possibly your PhD in chemical engineering or process technology. You have work experience in the industry and can communicate persuasively in German and English. Working in international teams has become a matter of course for you.

In research and development you will start in technical development, process development or application technology. Here for example, chemical processes are implemented to meet industry standards or new concepts are developed for existing processes. Using materials and operating data,  experiments and simulation, you will create solution propositions.

In engineering, process engineers start in plant construction or the specialist center for automation technology. The technical status of the production plant is a key success factor. Taking into account the requirements for safety, environmental impact, process concepts, and profitability is an integral part of our work.

As a lab team leader or research engineer you take on tasks like these:

  • Scientific work on a research project
  • Project management with economic assessment
  • Technical management of a lab or development team
  • Cooperation with universities and industrial partners
  • Registering patents

Process engineers in plant construction take on the following tasks:

  • Working on an investment project for constructing a chemical plant including economic assessment
  • Producing plant concepts for new construction and expansion measures
  • Producing process models

As soon as you join the company, we offer supporting seminars, and then provide international opportunities for further training and development. You will be contributing directly to a specific project.

Training is on the job in a committed and motivated team with the support of an assigned mentor.

The power of connected minds

Jens Schierholz joined BASF as a chemist in the development of industry foams. He is now plant manager of the ecoflex/ecovio production plant. When he was a student, he wanted to help protect the environment. With ecovio, he can provide a better solution for certain problems. He values that there are many experts in the company whom he can ask for advice and support. Collaboration and cooperation is what counts for him – no matter if the company is big or small.
