SLENTITE® – High-performance insulation with organic aerogel

SLENTITE® is the first high-performance, polyurethane-based aerogel insulation panel that needs only half the space to do the same job as conventional materials.

By drying a gel a novel mechanically stable organic aerogel is produced which has tiny air-filled but nonetheless open pores measuring only 50 to 100 nanometers in size. Researchers at BASF have thus invented a new insulation material which restricts the movement of air molecules, so that heat transfer is reduced, and at the same time is able to adsorb and release moisture.

Slentite⠢ ist die erste Hochleistungsdämmplatte der BASF auf Polyurethanbasis, die bei gleicher Dämmleistung nur halb so viel Platz benötigt wie herkömmliche Materialien. Bei dem organischen Aerogel besteht rund 90 % des Volumens aus mit Luft gefüllten offenen Poren, die lediglich einen Durchmesser von 50 bis 100 Nanometer haben. Dadurch wird die Bewegungsfreiheit der Luftmoleküle einge-schränkt und die Wärme-leitung reduziert. Einsatzgebiete des Hoch-leistungsdämmstoffs sind unter anderem Alt- und Neubauten. Up to 90% of the volume of the organic aerogel consists of air-filled pores which have a diameter of only 50 to 100 nanometers. As a result, the air moleculesâ   freedom of movement is limited and the transfer of heat is reduced. The high-performance insulation material can be used, for example, in the construction sector for old and new buildings. Magnification 8000:1 (15 cm in width).

Due to its morphology with nanopores of 50 to 100 nanometers in size, it has low thermal conductivity, allowing for even thinner insulation panels.
