Master Builders Solutions® sets a new benchmark in the workability of PCC mortars: MasterEmaco S 5500

  • New workability-optimized 2-in-1 refurbishment mortar for concrete and reinforced-concrete structures and structural elements
  • Bonding bridge and mortar in a single product
  • Unique application performance, also in terms of overhead application

With MasterEmaco S 5500, Master Builders Solutions® by BASF has developed a repair mortar with superior workability as well as excellent non-sag and bonding properties for use in refurbishment work on floors, walls, and ceilings. The new low-shrinkage PCC (Polymer Cement Concrete) repair mortar provides bonding bridge and mortar in a single product. Certified in accordance with DIN EN 1540-3 (class R4), the new product also meets the requirements of RiLi-SIB, ZTV-ING as well as ZTV-W LB 219.

Superior workability for applicators

Concrete protection and maintenance involves numerous challenges. “Especially with regard to the refurbishment of structurally relevant construction elements, PCC mortars are a technical requirement. For applicators to carry out their jobsite assignments efficiently, straightforward application and good plasticity properties, particularly in terms of overhead application, are indispensable,” explained Stefanie Riepe, Concrete Maintenance Product Manager with Master Builders Solutions for the DACH region. With its newly developed high-strength MasterEmaco S 5500 repair mortar, Master Builders Solution now offers a novelty for structurally relevant maintenance applications: “We developed MasterEmaco S 5500 with an eye on the priorities of all concrete-refurbishment stakeholders, aiming at the development of a PCC mortar that provides outstanding application properties, meets all rules, standards and requirements as to structurally relevant concrete repair in Germany, and provides long-term durable results. A balancing act and a big challenge that our experts in the laboratory and in the Application Technology department solved brilliantly with MasterEmaco S 5500”, Riepe said.

Added benefits for designers and specifiers

MasterEmaco S 5500 meets or exceeds the requirements of the RiLi-SIB guideline on the protection and refurbishment of structural concrete elements (stress category M3, the most-demanding such category in Germany) issued by DAfStb, the German Committee for Structural Concrete. The mortar also complies with the requirements of the supplementary technical contract conditions and guidelines for civil engineering (ZTV‑ING) issued by the German Federal Highway Research Institute, as well as those on the refurbishment of structural concrete elements in water structures (ZTV-W LB 219). In Germany, the specification and tender processes for refurbishment work on concrete and reinforced-concrete structures and structural elements often reference the above guidelines and standards. In addition, MasterEmaco S 5500 is also certified as an R4 mortar in accordance with the European refurbishment standard DIN EN 1504-3. With regard to technical properties, MasterEmaco S 5500 scores high in terms of, for instance, minimized crack susceptibility, low shrinkage, increased sulfate resistance, and extremely low chloride penetration.

This makes the new repair mortar the safe and durable solution for structurally relevant refurbishment work – providing engineers with planning reliability and owners with a long service life.
