BASF recognized as global leader in corporate climate action and water security

The international organization CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) has awarded BASF a top A rating in the 2018 Climate Change List. Each year, more than 7,000 companies disclose the environmental impacts, risks and opportunities associated with their business activities to CDP for an independent assessment. CDP represents more than 650 investors with over $87 trillion in assets and 115 major purchasing organizations with $3.3 trillion in purchasing power. BASF has participated in CDP’s program for reporting on data relevant to climate protection since 2004.

After achieving a score of A- for several years, resulting in “Leadership” status, BASF was now awarded the highest possible A rating in 2018. Companies at this level stand out due to the completeness and transparency of their reporting, their approaches for managing the opportunities and risks associated with climate change, and clear corporate strategies to reduce emissions.

“We are proud to be recognized as a CDP Leader. Our inclusion on the CDP Climate Change A list confirms that climate protection is firmly embedded in our strategy and a clear sign of our ownership. Our goal is CO2-neutral growth until 2030,” says Saori Dubourg, member of the Board of Executive Directors.

To meet BASF’s climate target, the company is continuously optimizing existing processes, gradually replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources and developing radically new low-emission production processes. The company is bundling these efforts under its ambitious carbon management. BASF’s climate strategy contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 “Climate Action.”

BASF also global leader in water security

CDP again acknowledged BASF as a global leader in sustainable water management. The organization awarded BASF with a A- rating in recognition of its actions to manage water more sustainably.
