The world's largest plastics trade fair "K" will take place in Düsseldorf from 16 to 23 October. As in previous years, BASF is represented with a new generation of energy-efficient thermal insulation materials: This time SLENTITE and SLENTEX will be presented in two new applications - the materials demonstrate their strengths both in carbon concrete facade elements and in a prototype camper van.
The two super-slim high-performance aerogel-based insulating materials are also convincing in new areas of application with their outstanding material properties. For example, in a residential building in Leipzig, whose supporting structure is made of carbon and reinforced concrete in hybrid construction. Used as an insulating layer between the concrete elements, SLENTITE and SLENTEX enable particularly slim wall structures. Compared to conventional materials, the wall thickness can be reduced by up to 50%. This creates space not only in the literal sense, but also for new aesthetic concepts. Both insulating materials can be easily integrated into the automated production of the concrete elements.
The use of SLENTITE and SLENTEX in the automotive sector is completely new. Especially here, where conventional insulating materials cannot be used due to their volume, they achieve valuable space savings - a decisive factor for mobile homes, caravans or the transport industry as a whole. BASF is manufacturing a prototype vehicle for this year's "K" in cooperation with a leading manufacturer of motorhomes and camping vans. This demonstrates how ultra-slim high-performance insulation can be used to gain valuable space for interior use.
Both applications will be presented at the "K" in October at booth C21/D21, hall 5.
