The transition toward a climate-friendly society remains a fundamental challenge of the 21st century. As an energy-intensive company, BASF has set itself an ambitious goal of climate neutrality in 2050. In doing so, we want to move forward as quickly as possible. Compared to 2018, BASF wants to reduce its volume of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide by 25 percent. Therefore, we must reinvent our processes and technologies, while staying cost-effective. A complex challenge, which we can only tackle jointly.

A joint effort

Our journey to #NetZero2050

„Climate change continues to be our biggest challenge. On our journey to a more sustainable and climate-neutral future, we are setting ourselves new and even more ambitious targets: We want to make BASF net carbon neutral by 2050.” Our CEO Martin Brudermüller outlines our new climate targets towards #NetZero2050 in this video.

Our Carbon Management

We want to live up to our responsibility for climate protection by becoming more efficient, using electricity from renewable sources and developing new low-emission technologies.

Energy and climate policies

We need a climate and energy policy framework that is predictable and stable as well as market-oriented and cost-effective. For this reason, BASF engages in the political debate working towards solutions that protect the environment and are both socially responsible and economically feasible.
