Shanghai, China – BASF today publishes its first Chinese science picture book Cool the Planet – Lead a Low-carbon Lifestyle, together with Juvenile & Children's Publishing House. Targeting children aged 9 to 12, the picture book outlines the concepts of greenhouse gases, the greenhouse effect, carbon peak, carbon neutrality, and other scientific concepts through Dr. Bubbles, BASF Kids' Lab‘s beloved mascot. As one of the highlights in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the BASF® Kids' Lab in China, the picture book is written to guide children to reflect on the impact of global warming and deliver the ideas of low-carbon living.
At today's book launch, BASF announced to donate 1,000 picture books to the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation(SSCLF). Dedicated to schools and libraries in remote areas and schools of children of migrant workers in Shanghai, the books are expected to sow "green" seeds in more children’s minds.
"Accelerating climate changes, such as global warming, require the concerted efforts of everyone, including our young generations,“ said Dr. Jeffrey Lou, President and Chairman, BASF Greater China. “At BASF, we believe education is the key to achieving a sustainable future. We're pleased to publish our first Chinese science picture book with Juvenile & Children's Publishing House and encourage our children to protect our planet by taking concrete actions."
"Juvenile & Children's Publishing House is fully committed to acting as a mentor and friend along with children's growth, which deeply coincides with BASF's vision and efforts. We are delighted to launch this well-illustrated science book together with BASF for a better future," said Feng Jie, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of Juvenile & Children's Publishing House.
Zhu Yaping, Deputy Secretary-General of SSCLF echoed: "Since its establishment in 1986, the SSCLF is committed to serving children following Mr. Soong Ching Ling's charitable spirit of ‘giving the most precious things to children'. The young generations are most impacted by climate change but also have a key role in ensuring a sustainable future. Co-presented by BASF and Juvenile & Children's Publishing House, the picture book delivers professional and engaging scientific knowledge and guides children in practicing a green lifestyle, making it a quality read for children to understand global climate change."
BASF is committed to actively supporting Sustainable Development Goal 4 "Quality Education" by organizing a wide range of social engagement programs on science education.
