BASF’s Eco-Efficiency Analysis is a strategic instrument for investigating costs as well as the environmental impact of products, processes or complete system solutions. BASF uses this method to optimize its product portfolio with respect to the requirements of a sustainable development. Approximately 700 Eco-Efficiency Analyses have already been carried out by BASF’s experts who have also used their know-how for external analyses.

BASF’s Eco-Efficiency Analysis was completely revised in 2017 because of current methodological developments. This revision was finalized with a validation by NSF International. Since then BASF only uses the new methodology to carry out Eco-Efficiency Analyses. Here are some examples that are based on the method that was successfully used until the end of 2014. The data and assumptions that were used for these studies represent the status at the time the studies were carried out; no updates have been made since then. One example for a new type of study is shown in the methods description, additional studies were prepared.
