Sustainability in Procurement
For us sustainable development means that we strengthen our suppliers’ awareness of our standards and expectations, and shape their contribution to sustainable development in a transparent manner.
A bio-based feedstock may feature unique properties and functionalities that are either impossible or very difficult to create using fossil resources. Furthermore, it can contribute to saving fossil resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In May 2016, BASF, Arkema, Jayant Agro-Organics Ltd. and Solidaridad launched the project "Pragati" to improve working conditions, create awareness for sustainable farming and increase yields due to more efficient farming practices.
BASF SE and partners have launched a joint cobalt pilot project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It seeks to identify workable solutions that lead to better working conditions at the mine site.
Together with partners, BASF SE has established a certified coconut oil supply chain. It will improve the livelihood of coconut farmers in the Philippines and Indonesia.
