BASF is listed in FTSE4Good Index Series for over 15 years

August 18, 2017

Launched in 2001, FTSE4Good Index Series is a distinguished series of benchmark and tradeable indices. Only companies meeting stringent criteria in the area of social, environmental and corporate governance and who manage to continuously confirm or develop these in regularly conducted assessments are listed in those indices.

The Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Ratings and data model allows investors to understand a company’s exposure to, and management of, ESG issues in multiple dimensions. The ESG Ratings are comprised of an overall rating that breaks down into underlying pillar and thematic exposures and scores. The pillars and themes are built on over 300 individual indicator assessments that are applied to each company’s unique circumstances.

BASF is amongst the best scorers in the chemical industry

This year, BASF achieved an ESG Rating Absolute Score of 4.3 (of 5-highest) and an ESG Rating ICB (Industry Classification Benchmark) Super sector Relative Percentile Score of 100, whereas 100 is the highest possible score. That means that BASF is top class in terms of ESG among chemicals companies belonging to the index. It is especially recognized for climate change, water use, environmental supply chain, labour standards, and social supply chain with top scores similarly for exposure and practice in each theme. Low scores, in contrast, are given for tax transparency.

The scores are assessed by analysts from FTSE Russell, a global leader in indexing and analytic solutions. Basically, companies are taken into the FTSE Russel assessments, if they are medium and large capitalization companies in developed and emerging markets.
