BASF in Ireland

BASF Cork site employee.jpg

BASF operates at two locations in Ireland. Our Cork site is a specialised manufacturer of performance products, developing solutions for metal recovery through its solvent extraction technologies. Our Dublin site provides intercompany financing to BASF group companies across the globe.

Cork
Our site in Cork was established in 1974 to manufacture specialty chemicals for the mining industry. Located at the mouth of the River Lee, 10km southeast of Cork city in Little Island, the existing site was acquired by BASF in 2010 and is the sole manufacturing site for our LIX® family of reagents. These reagents selectively extract metals from leached ores primarily copper and nickel.

We work on solutions for the energy-saving, efficient and environment-friendly recovery of metals from ores such as copper, nickel, uranium and vanadium. The primary markets for these reagents are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Chile, Peru, North America, South East Asia, Australia, Myanmar, Laos and China. We recover Alumat, a by-product Aluminium chloride solution, as a saleable product through a combination of recycling, concentration and purification technologies.

We have 62 employees located at our Cork site, and support six home-based sales employees involved in the agricultural and pharmaceutical industries. The site has always had a strong commitment to its employees, with some of the team having over 35 years’ service.

Dublin
A prime office location in Dublin’s City Quay houses BASF Ireland Financing Platform Limited (BIL). Since October 2018 its nine employees have provided intercompany financing to BASF group companies across the globe. Since many group companies require funding in their home currency, BIL is responsible for providing loans in more than 15 different currencies.
