BASF leading in climate and water protection reporting worldwide

November 2015

With a disclosure score of 100 and a performance rating of A-, BASF has been awarded a position on the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) 2015 by the international non-profit organization CDP. The CDP climate change reports and scores 2015 were released in early November and highlight BASF as a regional leader in the Energy & Materials sector as well as one of the leading companies among German DAX companies. BASF has earned its position on the index by disclosing high quality carbon emissions and energy data through CDP’s climate change program. BASF has published information on opportunities and risks for the company due to climate change using CDP since 2004. The CDP represents more than 820 institutional investors who manage an excess of US $ 95 trillion in assets.

CDP also acknowledged BASF’s approach to water management: BASF is emphasized for strong water policies in CDP’s annual global water report “Accelerating action” which was released in late October. BASF has been participating in the CDP Water program to demonstrate transparency in its reporting on water since 2010. This year the data provided by the companies was scored for the first time.BASF, listed in the materials sector, achieved the score A-, indicating leadership status. According to CDP, this excellent result is based on BASF´simplementation of a range of best practice actions to manage water and mitigate water risks, both in its own operations and beyond.

“Developing new solutions and implementing best practice actions is the most important contribution to climate and water protection that we as a company can make. Our excellent scoring confirms that we are on the right track with our 'We create chemistry for a sustainable future' strategy,” says Dr. Ulrich von Deessen, Head of the Environment, Health and Safety Competence Center and BASF Climate Protection Officer.
