New joint “Chemie-Sozialpartner” facility

Mar 16, 2016

The “Chemie-Sozialpartner” are strengthening their commitment to sustainable development. By founding the “Sozialpartner-Werkstatt für Innovation und Nachhaltigkeit – So.WIN”, the Bundesarbeitgeberverband Chemie (BAVC, German federation of chemical employers’ association) and the Industriegewerkschaft Bergbau, Chemie, Energie (IG BCE, industrial mining, chemistry, energy union) have established a new educational facility for operational practice.

So.WIN carries on the successful tradition of the “Gesellschaft zur Information von Betriebsräten über Umweltschutz in der chemischen Industrie” (GIBUCI, society for information of works councils concerning environmental protection in the chemical industry) and acts as a social partner, helping to embed the topic of sustainability both in plants and in the minds of staff. This will enable employees to discuss and resolve the challenges and conflicting goals of sustainability for their companies.

Margret Suckale, BAVC President and member of the Board of Executive Directors at BASF SE, highlighted the importance of a shared understanding of sustainability: “Sustainability can only be achieved with innovative products and solutions from the chemical industry. That is why it is so important that works councils and managers from the company work together to develop a shared understanding of sustainability. So.WIN is the perfect framework for this.”

“From their day-to-day work, our works councils know exactly where and how innovation and sustainability can be shaped and optimized,” said Michael Vassiliadis, Chair of IG BCE. “They bring participation and the definition of sustainability to life, both in the plants and outside the site gates. The work we do together paves the way for a successful future.”
