BASF offers high-quality polymer dispersions that have been specifically developed for Liquid-Applied Sound Damping (LASD) as well as a broad range of water-based adhesive for technical lamination

Liquid-Applied Sound Damping (LASD)

Aqueous liquid-applied sound damping is increasingly used to optimize the interior acoustics of cars and railway carriages to dampen the noise of household appliances. The systems have been designed to suppress the vibrations of the vehicle body or the casing and hence, to stop the humming sound. Due to their efficiency, precision and automated application via spray robots, water-based LASD masses are the modern alternative to traditional bitumen mats. One significant advantage: Due to its efficiency, the aqueous technology leads to significant weight savings.

As a pioneer in this field, BASF supports the technological change through innovative product developments: Our high-quality polymer dispersions help our customers to formulate highly efficient aqueous sound damping masses. Moreover, our additives allow for masses to be rheologically modified to ensure an ideal spraying application.

Interior Trimming

Carmakers increasingly try to stand out by offering high-quality and functional car interiors. That is where treated surface materials play a decisive role. Sub-suppliers to the car industry use a large number of different technologies to upgrade surfaces. The most tried and tested, most flexible and most sophisticated procedure is thermo-laminating, which involves the use of carrier materials made of linked natural fiber material or plastic (e.g. ABS) that are refined with thermo-plastic films (PVC, TPO), leather or textile materials with the help of laminating adhesives. This lamination process calls for reliable and resilient adhesives that need to meet the highest and most varied standards to fulfill the demands of the automotive industry with regard to reliability and resilience.

BASF offers a broad range of water-based adhesive raw materials that have been specifically developed for technical lamination. Our adhesive raw materials can, in combination with our additives, be formulated to become two-component adhesives or latent-reactive systems. They can be used to develop odor-free, block-resistant adhesives that can cope with extreme climatic changes and are very fast-setting. Our laboratory has the required test and lamination methods (e.g. a vacuum-frame table) that enable us to simulate all relevant customer processes.
