Our Purpose

The purpose of BASF reflects what we do and why we do it:

We want to contribute to a world that provides a viable future with enhanced quality of life for everyone. We do so by creating chemistry for our customers and society and by making the best use of available resources. We live our corporate purpose by: sourcing and producing responsibly, acting as a fair and reliable partner, connecting creative minds to find the best solutions for market needs. For us, this is what successful business is all about.

To reach these goals, we have defined our action areas.

Our Action Areas

When it comes to customers, we all stand together, and everyone impacts the experience our customers have with us. To be the leading chemical company, we must strengthen our performance in innovation and in operations, leverage digital ways of working, and integrate sustainability more deeply into our business decisions. We aim to strengthen our portfolio using the power of our Verbund integration. We will further develop our organization to run effectively and efficiently so that all of us can increase our focus on our customers. We have identified six action areas through which we aim to sharpen our customer focus.

Innovation

Together we develop the most attractive innovations for our customers. Our R&D competences are unique in the chemical industry.  

Sustainability

We want to live up to our purpose and be an action leader in sustainability. We are only successful if our products, solutions and technologies add value to society. Therefore, we want to make a positive impact on society and safeguard our planet.

Operations

Our customers expect us to deliver products on spec and on time. We are committed to running our production safely, efficiently and reliably.

Digitalization

We have made a good start into the digital transformation. Innovative digital solutions have created additional value for our customers and further increased the efficiency of our businesses, functions and research. Now, we need to bring it to the next level.

Portfolio

We aim to position each business/segment clearly towards its relevant competitors and establish a high performance operating model fitting to each competitive environment.

People

Our people are key to the successful implementation of our strategy. We need to have a flexible organization and empower our employees to be able to differentiate their offerings to customers.
