BASFs €16.5 billion investment in Asia since 1999 speaks to our commitment to the region. We've built a system for developing innovative products quickly and efficiently at sites close to customers. We've invested nearly €180 million in our Innovation Campus Shanghai and earmarked a potential investment of up to US$10 billion for our new, most advanced Verbund site in South China. In India, we look to build our first CO2-neutral site that will be completely powered by renewable energy through a joint venture with an investment totaling about €2 billion.

BASF today kicked off the piling work of the first plants of its smart Verbund project in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, China. This came as another important milestone in the development of the company’s US$10 billion investment project since its official commencement in November 2019. The first plants will produce engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to serve the increasing needs of various growth industries in the southern China market and throughout Asia.
Today, BASF officially launched its smart Verbund project in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, China, and commenced building its first plants. It marks a milestone of the company’s US$10 billion investment project announced in July 2018. The first plants will produce engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to serve the increasing needs of various growth industries in the southern China market and throughout Asia.
BASF plans to build an engineering plastics compounding plant and a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) plant at the company’s proposed integrated chemical production (“Verbund”) site in Zhanjiang, China. These will be the first production plants to come onstream at the site.
BASF today inaugurated a new liaison office in the city of Zhanjiang, China, marking another significant milestone in establishing local presence to further develop and implement BASF’s plans for a new, integrated chemical production site.
