“Strategic Partnership Award”: BASF presents award to Huafeng
PolyTHF provides elasticity in textiles
PolyTHF is an important intermediate in the manufacturing of Spandex fibers that are combined with polyamide, cotton or polyester fibers. The use of these fibers lends a permanently high degree of elasticity to the textiles into which it is incorporated. Thanks to its excellent resistance to hydrolysis and microbes, fibers containing PolyTHF are primarily used in garments that come into direct contact with the body, such as in bathing wear, underwear, stockings or sports clothing. An additional benefit of these elastic fibers is their particularly long service life.
The Intermediates division of BASF develops, produces and markets the broadest range of intermediates of any company in the world. The most important products in its range of over 600 products include amines, diols, polyalcohols, in addition to acids and specialty chemicals. Intermediates are used as the starter product for coatings, plastics, pharmaceutical products, textile fibers, detergents and agricultural products. Innovative intermediates from BASF enhance both the properties of the final products and the efficiency of production processes. The Intermediates division operated from sites in Europe, Asia, North America and South America in 2006. The division, which has achieved certification to ISO 9001:2000 and employs 2,600 people, recorded a total sales figure of about € 2.3 billion.
