BASF to produce cost-efficient binders for paper coating at its Finnish Hamina site
- Products now also available in Northern Europe and Russia
- Further extension of portfolio planned
BASF now produces its new cost-efficient binders (CEBs) based on styrene-acrylics and styrene butadiene at its site in Hamina, Finland. Since 2012, the successful product line has already been supplied primarily to customers in Central Europe from the site in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Now, customers in the Northern European and Russian market can also benefit from the new products. BASF can thus supply the whole European paper industry.
Important pillar for growth
Cost-efficient binders are an important building block in the growth plans of the Paper Chemicals division. Through the development of a new technology, BASF has been successful in reducing the production cost of the binders. With this, paper manufacturers can significantly reduce their chemical costs. BASF will continue to invest in research and development of cost-efficient binders, thus laying the groundwork for the consequent expansion of the CEB portfolio.
“Following the huge success of our cost-efficient binders in Central Europe, we continue to invest in this product line to expand the success story all over Europe. With this, we provide paper manufacturers an additional interesting solution to further reduce their costs,” said Andreas Tuerk, Senior Vice President, Paper Chemicals Europe.
