Physics means teamwork

Laboratory team leader Dr. Ingmar Bruder and chemical laboratory assistant Nicole Kaiser place the metal jackets with the organic dye-sensitized solar cells into the apparatus. This special apparatus simulates in time-lapse the various demands and stresses to which organic dye-sensitized solar sells are exposed in daily use. During the test, the organic color solar cells are connected to a computer that measures and records the performance.

Research with us in interdisciplinary teams.

As a physicist at BASF you will work on projects which inspire every researcher. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team composed of chemists, materials scientists and other natural scientists, working for example on organic light emitting diodes, nano-particles, catalysts, pigments or construction chemicals.

Your expertise is in demand: as a specialist in a certain method or working area you will contribute significantly to driving our research projects forward. We invite you to become excited about our broad know-how of scientific investigative methods.

In addition, the framework conditions at BASF are excellent: the interdisciplinary, global collaboration opens up fascinating areas of work and a large investment in innovation projects, together with numerous cooperative partnerships with leading universities and industrial partners also create new opportunities.

University graduates with several years' professional experience will find attractive career opportunities within the BASF research community.

As a physicist with professional experience you generally join us an expert in one of our three research areas of Advanced Materials & Systems Research, Process Research & Chemical Engineering or Bioscience Research with direct project or management responsibility, depending on your experience.

Our operational units and competence centers are also looking for new colleagues with expertise, for example in applications engineering, analytics, patents or in scientific information.

Apply to one of our job postings or send us your speculative application.

We are looking forward to meeting you.

With a PhD in physics you have several years of professional experience in the chemicals industry or in one of our customer industries such as in the automotive sector, the adhesive industry or in the crop protection industry.

You are a specialist in a physical measurement method or you have extensive knowledge of materials research, specifically of polymers.

You solve scientific and technical questions creatively and with purpose and you are experienced in project management. You enjoy working in an interdisciplinary environment and know how to lead a team to achieve the best results.

You can also communicate self-confidently in English and you see business travel as an opportunity to further develop your linguistic and intercultural skills.

Physicists with professional experience start as specialists in the corresponding research units or in corporate divisions in which conceptual work and problem-solving strategies are required, such as for example in internal management consultancy.

In research you can expect demanding tasks such as in scientific computing, molecular modeling or in analytics.

It is possible in principle to join one of our three global research divisions.

In Advanced Materials & Systems Research we create solutions with new functional materials and systems for the automotive, construction, electronics, detergent and cleaning agents, water and wind industries.

In Process Research & Chemical Engineering we develop new and improve existing processes for the manufacture of base chemicals, intermediates and fine chemicals. We are also seeking alternatives to the raw material of crude oil and we are working on energy conversion and storage.

In Bioscience Research we seek new ways of increasing agricultural productivity and meeting the need for healthy food using biotechnological methods as well as research in new crop protection products, making sure our solutions meet the highest standards in human and environmental safety.

University graduates with several years' professional experience will find attractive career opportunities within the BASF research community with challenging tasks in highly-qualified project teams. Pass on your scientific know-how as a subject expert in analytics or applications engineering and solve demanding tasks in research and product development with a high level of personal responsibility.

From the outset you will be collaborating on a specific research project. Your role also consists of project management with regular commercial evaluation and the registration of patents. Your training is "on the job".

An essential part of your work will be collaboration with internal partners from research and development, marketing and production in interdisciplinary and often also intercultural teams.

We offer attractive framework conditions and excellent development opportunities in an international company.

Several career paths are open to you – the scientific path as a subject expert in research or one of the many development opportunities in other areas such as marketing, production, internal management consultancy, communications or human resources.

In the regular employee dialogs you can plan your next career steps together with your supervisor and lay out your professional development plan. You will receive further support through the many continuing education and training measures such as seminars or training "on-the job".
