Sustainability News – June 2019

Dear readers,

Climate protection needs tangible measurements – and the time for action is now. Technologies that help tackle the challenge of climate change are now more relevant than ever and are strongly requested by societies and governments. BASF is willing to take the lead with its “Carbon Management” research program: “We are talking about fundamentally new technologies that have the potential to revolutionize chemicals production in terms of climate protection,” explains Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors and Chief Technology Officer of BASF SE in a current interview about the program. “BASF has its sights on being a pioneer in the sector when it comes to climate protection and that is exactly what our Carbon Management program aims at.”

Climate protection: Interview with Martin Brudermüller

BASF has set new climate protection objectives as part of its corporate strategy and announced a “Carbon Management” research program in January.

Aspects of the new CO2 emission-free methanol synthesis process were tested in a pilot plant at BASF’s subsidiary hte GmbH in Heidelberg, Germany. Project manager Dr. Maximilian Vicari and hte expert Dr. Nakul Thakar are pleased to have solved challenges that arose during the activation of the catalyst and the operation of the plant.

BASF develops process for climate-friendly methanol

The production of the most important basic chemicals is responsible for around 70 percent of greenhouse gases in the chemical industry. BASF is working on new technologies to substantially reduce emissions.

World’s first sustainable castor bean program Pragati moves to the next level

The companies Arkema, BASF, Jayant Agro-Organics and Solidaridad have empowered more than 2,700 Indian farmers with the project for a sustainable castor bean production.
