BASF at Sustainable Brands Conferences in Boston, Kuala Lumpur and London

November 2015

How is BASF contributing to a sustainable future and how is the method Sustainable Solution Steering™ changing the company’s business strategies? These questions were answered at several Sustainable Brands Conferences, where BASF was present in October and November.
The Sustainable Brands New Metrics Conference in Boston in October focused on how to manage and measure success using innovative methods.

The three-day event gave the attendees a chance to explore new frontiers in setting company goals. Dr. Dirk Voeste, Vice President Sustainability Strategy, BASF SE, gave a presentation on how the company’s method Sustainable Solution Steering™ is changing business strategies and creating value. The method allows BASF to both improve individual solutions towards defined customer needs and to steer its entire portfolio. The evaluation results influence the business strategy and enable a further integration of sustainability into customer support and product offerings.

Dr. Voeste also addressed the goals for the coming years: “To underpin the importance of sustainability for our portfolio we have set ourselves concrete goals: We want to further increase our portfolio of innovative and sustainable solutions and reduce the environmental impact along the value chain. Sustainable Solution Steering helps us to seize opportunities as well as to minimize risks.” By 2020, BASF wants to increase the sales share of Accelerators, these are solutions that make a substantial contribution to sustainability in the value chain, to 28%. In addition, the company strives to continuously reduce the share of Challenged solutions, these are applications with a significant sustainability concern.

BASF also present at conferences in Kuala Lumpur and London

At the Sustainable Brands Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Daniel Loh, Managing Director BASF Malaysia, spoke on how the company creates chemistry for a sustainable future with its innovations. BASF discussed with participants in different breakout sessions how sustainability drives innovation and presented solutions for the construction and automotive industry as well as to safeguard natural resources such as water.

In Kuala Lumpur BASF talked about how sustainability can drive innovation.

BASF also took part in the Sustainable Brands Conference in London in mid-November. In between presentations, attendees of the three-day event were able to visit BASF's Urban Space. At various interactive stations BASF presented solutions for the urban life of the future. In his presentation Dr. Dirk Voeste talked about the Sustainable Solution Steering™ method.
