Master Builders Solutions® contribute to sustainable construction works

More than 100 years of experience in the construction industry: Under the umbrella of the Master Builders Solutions® brand, BASF bundles its advanced chemical solutions for new construction, maintenance, repair, and renovation. Three examples show that product research goes hand in hand with sustainable development.

Construction work in the winter time is particularly challenging: When the temperature drops below 5°C, hardening of concrete slows down. Thus additional heat has to be applied – a time-consuming and expensive measure. The accelerating concrete admixture Master X-Seed enhances early age strenth development of concrete and ensures concrete durability. By heating the concrete from within, gas- or diesel-powered heat sources become redundant. This reduces overall costs and lowers the carbon footprint.

To enable smooth concrete placement, the hyperplasticizer Master Glenium SKY is used – among other Master Builders Solutions® products – for the expansion of the Pyhrn motorway in Austria. Sustainability was a crucial criterion in the expansion of the Steyr bridge: Binder content – the production of which substantially determines a concrete structure’s carbon footprint – was to be kept to a minimum. Here, MasterGlenium SKY facilitated the production of a fresh concrete with optimized binder content.

The advantages of the elastic waterproofing slurry MasterSeal 6100 FX are based upon a combination of powerful binding systems and powdery polymers. The product was designed and developed in alignment with LEED criteria (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for ecologically high-performing buildings: According to this standard MasterSeal 6100 FX scores extremely well due to the use of recycled content, regional material, and low-emitting materials. MasterSeal 6100 FX is applied in waterproofing projects: In Livigno in Italy aqueducts have been sealed internally and externally with MasterSeal 6100 FX so that water penetration into the structure and potential damages due to corrosion could be prevented.
