UN Global Compact + 15 Europe Conference in Berlin

October 2015

In mid-October Global Compact Local Networks in Europe, their participants and stakeholders came together in Berlin to discuss the future of corporate sustainability and the UN Global Compact (UNGC) in Europe. Keynote speeches were given by Lise Kingo, Executive Director, UN Global Compact, Sir Mark Moody-Stuart , Chairman Foundation for the Global Compact, and Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE.

The meeting took place in the context of several important events in 2015: the announcement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September, climate negotiations in Paris to start end of November and the UN Global Compact’s 15th anniversary.

The UN Global Compact was founded in 2000 as a network to support companies in aligning with UN principles and objectives for a sustainable future. Today, the UNGC has more than 12,000 participants – companies and organizations alike – from more than 160 countries, representing the world’s largest sustainability initiative.

BASF has supported the UNGC since 2000 as a founding member. Since 2011, the company has been a member of the UN Global Compact LEAD, a platform for companies that are world leaders in the field of sustainability management.

Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, was appointed to the United Nations Global Compact Board by the Secretary General in 2012 and has recently been appointed to serve as a Board member for another three years.
